OUR STORY
Our story begins in 1921, when Overhead Door™ Corporation’s founder, C. G. Johnson, invented the upward-lifting garage door. In 1926, he followed this with the electric garage door opener. For over 100 years, the Overhead Door™ brand has stood for product quality, expertise, and professional service.
Established as Dayton Door Sales in 1961 by Ken Monnin, the Overhead Door Company of Dayton™ has grown from its modest beginnings to become the region’s most recognized door experts. Ken molded Overhead Door Company of Dayton™ into arguably one of the most professional door companies in the industry, culminating with his Presidency of the national industry association, The Door & Operator Dealer’s Association (DODA), in 1990. This organization is now known as the International Door Association (IDA).
The Overhead Door Company of Dayton™ strongly believes in this industry association and subscribes to its “code of conduct” of sound business practices. It also participates in other programs, including the certification of installers by the education arm of IDA, IDEA—Institute of Door Dealer Education & Accreditation.
We are rich with heritage, stability, and know-how. Building on the culture of the past and injecting the new technologies of today, the company continues to be the leader in the region. In 2010, the Overhead Door Company of Dayton™ purchased Graf & Sons in Columbus, OH, and now operates it as the Overhead Door Company of Greater Columbus™ in the Central Ohio market. We are duplicating our expertise and success in Columbus as we have in Dayton for the last 55+ years!
